Photos of a new Leapmotor model, known as the A12 project, have been posted on Xiaohongshu, China’s Instagram-like social media platform. The heavily camouflaged car appears to be smaller than the C11 and is expected to cost around 99,800 yuan ($13,800).
The car’s design is similar to the Leap C10, with hidden door handles and a length of between 4.5 and 4.6 meters. Although the project name is A12, it is possible that this is just an internal codename and that the final car will receive a C-series name.
The interior is expected to be similar to the C10, with an LCD instrument cluster and a floating central display. The car will feature a traditional two-row, five-seat layout. Production versions will likely come in both full EV and extended-range EV versions, with the latter having a range of between 100 and 150 km.
The A12 project is likely designed as a global car following on from the C10. Stellantis acquired 20% of Leapmotor in a deal that closed in October 2023. As part of the deal, the two companies formed a joint venture called Leapmotor International (Stellantis owns 51% and Leapmotor controls 49%) to sell and manufacture Leapmotor vehicles outside of China.
The A12 will likely be unveiled later this year, likely at the Guangzhou Motor Show, and will follow the C16 that is expected to launch later this year.
