European industry: Germany, Italy and France call for a simplification shock

The German and French Economy and Italian Business Ministers have called on the European Commission to implement an ambitious simplification program to preserve European industry in the face of American and Chinese powers. During a meeting organized in Meudon, they defended a reduction in standards weighing on small and medium-sized businesses and a simplification of EU administrative procedures.

A multitude of regulations

The EU’s three largest economies want to eliminate unnecessary administrative burdens and simplify the multitude of regulations imposed on businesses in the territory, primarily SMEs. This request comes almost a year after the controversy sparked by Emmanuel Macron’s request for a “regulatory break” for the industry of the Old Continent in order to facilitate the digestion of the ecological standards of the “Green Deal”.

Simplifying EU administrative procedures

The ministers published a joint statement stating their desire to continue “the simplification and acceleration of EU administrative procedures”, including “for the granting of permits and access to European funding programs and aid. ‘State”. They invite the Commission to “implement an ambitious simplification program” eliminating “regulatory overlaps”. The idea would thus be to “remove” “obsolete or irrelevant” rules.

European preference in calls for tender, a thorny subject

However, another thorny issue continues to be debated among the EU’s top three economies: that of European preference in calls for tender. Germany is more cautious than France on this subject.
