Huawei is still working to make a name for itself in the automotive industry, and while it observes Xiaomi’s successes in the sector with an absent-minded eye, it is gradually taking interesting steps to find its place. We already know about some of its collaborations, such as with BAIC and Changan, but soon a new electric car will also see the light of day thanks to a joint venture with JAC Motors.
He is essentially a 100% electric vehicle in the segment of minivans, who aspires to have the equipment, finishes and technologies of a Rolls-Royce or a Maybach.
A high-end passenger transport vehicle
Among the details given by Xiang Xingchu, Chairman of JAC, at the China Automotive Forum held a few days ago, the car’s business card also includes theintegration of autonomous driving software, which will also be available for the rest of the Chinese manufacturer’s model range.
The production of the first car Huawei and JAC will begin at the end of 2024, and it will go on sale, at least on the local market, at mid-year 2025, while it remains to be seen in which markets it will be extended and when.
Some rumors suggest that the car will be called Aojie, but this information has not yet been confirmed and will be revealed in the coming months.
JAC Motors is responsible for developing and manufacturing the electric models resulting from the cooperation agreement signed at the end of last year, while Huawei claims to be involved in the design and some production details, although its main task is technological solutions for cars, as well as being in charge of the worldwide distribution, sales and after-sales service.
The luxury minivan, which will go on sale in a year, will cost around $141,400, or 130,000 euros. So it’s not a cheap car, but it is a cheaper alternative to the Rolls-Royce Phantom, which Huawei and JAC hope to compete with.
Additionally, Richard Yu, president of Huawei’s intelligent vehicle department, went so far as to say that the zero-emission vehicle will surpass the Rolls-Royce and other well-known luxury manufacturers.
The factory that JAC and Huawei agreed to use can produce a total of 200,000 vehicles per year, and the first car they collaborated on will be joined by other joint projects, which will also be built at the factory.
