The classic DeLorean from Back to the Future returns to the present as a neo-retro electric car

Since 1980, when the first trip back in time aboard a DeLorean, this American sports coupe has acquired the status of a cinematic icon, and although neither the brand nor the model itself has had a long life in the real world, there has been no shortage of attempts to bring it back to the present, whether by DeLorean itself, or what remains of it, with models like the DeLorean Alpha5, whose more modern approach does not was maybe not the one many were hoping for.

Fortunately, other proposals have emerged, either to restore the classic models or to directly bring the authentic DMC-12 with a more modern touch. It’s the latter where Lynx Motors enters the picture, ready to resurrect the DeLorean we all know, but which will now run on batteries rather than a flux capacitor. And these are not distant promises, but rather a car whose release is scheduled for next year and whose price has already been revealed.

Features of the Lynx DMC-EV

With these first photos we can see how Lynx Motors managed to perfectly capture the retro style of the original DeLorean, bringing some touches especially to the front, with new, more modern headlights and a more aggressive bumper, but in keeping these edges in a gray color different from the silver of the rest of the body, and in the center, the new name “DMC-EV”. The side is by far the most intact, with new rims, while the rear features a partially hidden surface with minimalist four-bar lights and a striking diffuser underneath.

The interior retains this neo-retro side. The overall shape of the console, seats and door panels is very “eighties”, but it is now accompanied by a spectacular dashboard which has been converted into a gigantic digital screen, while the console also features a rotary control with its own screen. There is also a new steering wheel with a very sporty design with carbon fiber parts, which fits into Tesla’s minimalism with two small wheels as controls, while LED lights are visible at the top of the steering wheel.

What will be the engine of the Lynx DMC-EV?

Mechanically, the new DeLorean DMC-EV ditches the original model’s V6 engine for four electric motors, each on one of the wheels, to offer all-wheel drive and, we assume, torque vectoring, although none power figure has not yet been communicated. They are powered by a 70 kWh CATL battery which offers a range of 402 km on a single charge and allows you to go from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds.

Lynx DMC-EV price and launch date

The new Lynx DMC-EV, its official name, will be marketed in 2025 at a starting price of 249,999 dollars, or approximately 228,811 euros at the current exchange rate, making it one of the closest returns and most materialized of the DeLorean to date.
