Chery Auto is set to sign an electric car platform cooperation agreement with a European premium brand, according to its president Yin Tongyue. In principle, negotiations have been carried out in recent months with two brands from the Old Continent with similar positioning and, in the coming hours, the agreement will be signed with one of the two – a brand “more premium than us”, assured Yin Tongyue last Sunday, April 14 during a broadcast event.
Chery restores jobs at former Nissan factory
The Chinese conglomerate owns Omoda, which recently arrived in our country and whose models are starting to arrive at Spanish dealerships. It is understood that Chery will manufacture in its home country and its assembly plant will be the former Nissan plant, forming a joint venture with the Btech company. The announcement will be made on Friday April 19.
Like BYD, Geely and other brands of Chinese origin, Chery has the opportunity to make a place for itself on the Old Continent by using its ability to produce inexpensive electric vehicles, an interesting niche market at the moment because it is relatively unexploited. Sunday’s event focused on the Exeed Exlantix ET, which is based on the E0X platform designed for electric and hybrid cars.
Chery has just unveiled the Exlantix ET based on the E0X platform.
No details have yet been revealed as to the identity of the two brands, nor whether this partnership would involve the use of the E0X platform on which the Exlantix ET, its latest electric SUV, is based. Which, on the one hand, would make sense given that Tongyue’s trip to Europe is partly a promotion for its new model. For now, we know that an Omoda 3 will arrive later, the size and price of which will be lower than those of the Omoda 5 already present.
In addition to this agreement with a premium European brand, the Chinese state-owned company intends to discuss future partnerships with other brands. In its home country, Chery is responsible for manufacturing Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles for the huge local market at the Changshu factory, where they have encountered quality control problems.
