BMW i5 Touring: the new electric station wagon makes its debut

BMW is enriching its range with the launch of the i5 Touring, an electric version of its famous 5er Touring model. This vehicle combines elegance and performance, while integrating the latest advances in electric motorization, alongside existing gasoline, diesel and plug-in hybrid versions.

The BMW 5er Touring has gained dimensions compared to its predecessor, stretching to a length of 5,060 mm (+97 mm), a width of 1,900 mm (+32 mm) and a height of 1,515 mm (+17 mm) . One of the strong points of this model is the widening of the trunk opening, offering a flexible loading volume, ranging from 570 to 1,700 liters.

Inside, the BMW Curved Display dominates the dashboard, combining a 12.3-inch information screen and a 14.9-inch control display. The new Touring also sports vegan interior trim as standard.

Performance and features of the electric BMW i5 Touring

BMW offers two versions of the i5 Touring: the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring, equipped with two engines offering a combined power of 442 kW and an all-wheel drive system. This model promises acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 230 km/h.

The BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring, on the other hand, has rear-wheel drive with an output of 250 kW and a maximum torque of 430 Nm, allowing it to reach 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.

Both variants are equipped with an 81.2 kWh battery, offering an estimated range of between 445 and 506 km for the M60 xDrive Touring model and between 483 and 560 km for the eDrive40 Touring model, depending on the WLTP cycle.

Battery charging can be done using alternating current up to 11 kW as standard, and up to 22 kW as an option. In direct current, the load can reach up to 205 kW.

The new BMW 5er Touring comes with Parking Assistant as standard, including drive-off monitoring, Trailer Assistant, reversing camera and Reverse Assistant. With the optional Parking Assistant Professional, it is possible to carry out automated parking and storage maneuvers over a distance of up to 200 meters, controllable from a smartphone.

The BMW i5 Touring is scheduled to go on sale in Germany in May 2024, marking a new stage in the evolution of BMW’s electric range, combining tradition and innovation for sustainable and efficient mobility.
