Chinese company Hygreen will invest 2 billion euros in a green hydrogen plant in Spain

The Chinese multinational Hygreen Energy will undertake three major projects in Andalusia linked to green hydrogen, including an investment of 2,000 million euros in the province of Huelva for the construction of its own production plant for this green energy, as well as a factory in Malaga specializing in technologies related to this sector, which will create around 1,000 jobs.

In addition, Hygreen signed an agreement with the Spanish company Cox Abengoa to develop the Chinese company’s technology in the construction and development of components for the production of green hydrogen at its plant in Seville, according to the signed agreement in Beijing between the president of Hygreen España, Javier Romero, and the president of Cox Abengoa, Enrique Riquelme.

This agreement is the first signed as part of the official trip to China that the president of the regional government, Juanma Moreno, began this Wednesday. On his first day in Beijing, he visited the Daxing International Zone renewable energy technology park on the city’s outskirts and held a meeting with representatives of the Hygreen Energy company.

In his statements to the media, the President of the Junta welcomed this agreement in a strategic sector for the generation of investments and qualified and stable jobs, as well as for strengthening the industrialization capacity of the Andalusia.

In four years, Andalusia has doubled its production of clean energy from solar and wind, said Moreno, who stressed that the region has a great future in the field of renewable energy.

Mr. Moreno also thanked the “enormous hospitality and excellent treatment” offered by the Chinese authorities to the Andalusian delegation in China with the aim of boosting commercial collaboration with the Asian giant in sectors such as renewable energy, l automobile, tourism, and to “place Andalusia on the international stage”, ensuring that political and social stability translates into investments.

During the day, the president will hold a meeting with representatives of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), during which he will be accompanied by a director of Santana Motor.

During this official trip, which will last until September 5, he will be accompanied by the regional ministers of economy, finance and European funds, Carolina España; of tourism and external Andalusia, Arturo Bernal; and Industry, Energy and Mining, Jorge Paradela.

The delegation also includes a broad representation of business organizations with interests in China, including CESUR, the Seville Chamber of Commerce, the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Cluster and companies such as Ghenova, Ximenez Group, Cunext, Chinaling Esg, Cox Abengoa, H2B2, and the port of Algeciras.

Links between China and Europe

This Thursday, the president of the regional government of Andalusia held a meeting in Beijing with representatives of the municipal government of the Chinese capital, where he expressed the desire of his region to play “a leading role” in relations between China and Europe.

Yin Li, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, attended the meeting. The Andalusian president received him last May at the San Telmo Palace in Seville, seat of the Junta presidency.

Mr. Moreno thanked Mr. Yin for his visit to Seville, which “gave credibility and confidence” to the work carried out by Chinese authorities, he said.

“Europe needs China and China needs Europe,” declared the Andalusian president, adding that Andalusia, due to its “unique” position with “a coast on the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea”, wishes to play “a leading role in these close and friendly relations”.

Mr. Moreno said his delegation wanted to “know and learn” about the “enormous dynamism of the Chinese economy” and praised the Asian country for “becoming a leader in several strategic sectors” and for “the access to the middle class of hundreds of millions of people”, with the “opportunities for social, economic and consumption development” that this implies.

For his part, Mr. Yin welcomed Spain’s “recovery” from the pandemic and the country’s “dynamic economy” at present. China and Spain have “broad common interests and broad prospects for cooperation,” the Chinese official said, adding that the country’s reform will “protect the legitimate interests and rights of foreign companies.” Marta Betanzos Roig, Ambassador of Spain to China, also participated in the meeting.
