“F1 Hungarian GP FP1: Verstappen Dominates First Practice with 1:17.384, Ferrari and McLaren Complete Top 3 at Hungaroring”

Lando Norris showcased impressive speed during the first practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, leading a McLaren one-two finish.

Session Highlights

In Hungarian GP FP1, Lando Norris topped the session with a time of 1:16.052, just 0.019 seconds ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri. The McLaren duo demonstrated exceptional performance, leaving Charles Leclerc as the only other driver within half a second of their pace. Piastri set the fastest time in Sector 1 but was unable to keep up with Norris throughout the lap, even running wide into the gravel toward the end of the session.

Notable Performances

Isack Hadjar made a strong impression for Racing Bulls, securing fourth place and completing the most laps of the session with a total of 31. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton faced a mixed session with Ferrari, finishing sixth. He reported handling issues and also ran wide at Turn 6. Oliver Bearman finished seventh, followed closely by the Mercedes drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, who reverted to an older rear wing design after recent difficulties.

Max Verstappen managed to secure ninth place for Red Bull, while Lance Stroll rounded out the top ten. Felipe Drugovich, standing in for the injured Fernando Alonso, finished in 16th place. Sauber had a challenging session, with Paul Aron stopping on track due to a power issue and Gabriel Bortoleto retiring early with a separate problem.

Upcoming Sessions

FP2 is scheduled to commence at 5 p.m. Local time (1 a.m. AEST).
