François Ozon’s latest film, IN THE HOUSE, plays with the boundaries between fact and fiction. It is also a wonderful exploration of the written word delivered in very cinematic terms. Sixteen-year-old Claude (Ernst Umhauer) insinuates himself into the house of a fellow student and writes about it in weekly essays for his French teacher (Fabrice Luchini) who shares them with his wife (Kirsten Scott Thomas). What happens “in the house” is complex as Claude’s entrance into this seemingly normal middle-class family causes ripples in the development of his relationship with each family member.
