Supercars Championship Battle Heats Up: Top 5 Standings Shake-up After Dramatic Ipswich Triple Crown Weekend

Will Brown has secured his place in the finals, joining three other drivers in the race for the championship title.

Current Standings and Drivers

While Broc Feeney is the only driver officially confirmed in the finals after clinching the Sprint Cup last Saturday morning, he is now one of four drivers mathematically safe. Alongside him are Will Brown, Matt Payne, and Cam Waters, who will all compete among the final ten drivers for the title as they head to the Gold Coast.

The 600-Point Cut-Off

The 600-point cut-off has generated significant discussion, especially with two enduros remaining at The Bend and Bathurst, where winners will earn 300 points for each race. However, this situation is more complex than it appears, as multiple primary drivers cannot win both enduros. This is why Waters is considered safe; the lowest he could drop is to ninth place, which would still secure him in the unlikely event that someone outside the top ten wins the Endurance Cup and the automatic finals berth that comes with it.

Contenders and Competition

Drivers like Chaz Mostert and Brodie Kostecki are also effectively safe, although not mathematically confirmed. The competition is particularly fierce around the top ten cut-off, with just 41 points separating Andre Heimgartner in eighth place (1083 points) and Kai Allen in eleventh (1042 points). Thomas Randle entered Ipswich in eighth but has now fallen to tenth after a quiet weekend, while Ryan Wood managed to move from tenth to ninth despite receiving a 15-second penalty during Sunday’s race, which left him in 21st position.

Potential Upsets

Kai Allen appears to be in the best position to create a late upset in the standings, both in terms of points and form. Meanwhile, Cameron Hill faced a challenging Sunday, including a drive-through penalty for an unusual collision with Zach Bates, leaving him in twelfth, 108 points off the cut-off. Nick Percat (883 points), Bryce Fullwood (881 points), and Jack Le Brocq (845 points) are closely grouped in thirteenth through fifteenth places but will need a strong performance in the upcoming enduro campaign to improve their standings.
