Over the years, the XY GT has made its mark on the track, from Allan Moffat’s iconic HO dominating Australian motorsport in the early 1970s to various modern iterations still racing in historic series today.
A Unique Rally Car Experience
Have you ever encountered a Ford Falcon XY GT rally car? If not, you’re in for a treat. This 1971 XY GT, meticulously prepared for gravel by Mark Taylor decades ago, is still capable of tackling forest roads with impressive flair, now driven by his daughter, Australian rally champion Molly Taylor.
A Storied History
This distinctive classic Ford was a regular participant in rallies during the 1990s, gaining recognition on Australia’s forest roads. However, it eventually fell into disuse. Thanks to Supercheap Auto, the MaD Garage has revived the XY rally car, bringing it out of retirement to feature in the 2025 Best Performing Oils commercial.
A Special Shakedown
For its shakedown, the MaD Garage secured exclusive access to the Black Rock Motor Resort. Before the 5.4km gravel circuit is converted to asphalt later this year, the XY GT took to the dirt for a thrilling lap that you won’t want to miss. This unique event showcases the roaring Cleveland 351 engine echoing through the native gum forest, complete with exhilarating sideways action and flying gravel.
Sit back and enjoy this one-time experience as the XY GT reminds us of its legendary status in the world of motorsport.
