‘Night Owls,’ ‘3 1/2 Minutes’ Win At Skyway

The first Skyway Film Festival has come to a close, and the inaugural awards have been given. Night Owls, by director Charles Hood, snagged the Grand Jury Narrative Feature award, while 3 ½ Minutes, 10 Bullets, by documentarian Marc Silver, won the Grand Jury Documentary Feature Award. The jury awards were given by a prestigious group of judges—and somehow also myself and Phil Lederer on behalf of SRQ Media Group. The two of us judged the Florida Short Film competition, and I’m sure we will share more on that later this week. Other much more distinguished jurors included: Dori Sperko, (Sex Ed, Albion: Rise of the Danann); Ryan O’Nan, Actor/Writer (Ray Donovan, The Iceman); Daniel Bort, Expression Entertainment, President; Andre Holland, Actor (The Knick/Selma); Leslie Cohen, HBO, VP of Programming; Lee Broda, Actor/Producer (Amnesiac/The Phenom); Caroline Connor, Producer (Chu and Blossom/Franny); Michael Darrow, Editor (Albion: The Rise of Danann/Casual Encounters); Marty Clear, Bradenton Herald; and Julie La’Bassiere, BAFTA NY, CEO.
