John O’Keefe was never involved in movies until the Jennifer Lopez film Parker shot some critical scenes at The Ringling in Sarasota. Now the actor has become a regular presence in Southwest Florida’s growing film community. Need proof? Check out The Sunny Side, a short film screening in this year’s Sarasoota Film Festival line-up.
The short, produced by Orensis Films and directed by Trishul Thejasvi, gave O’Keefe a chance to employ his acting chops to full effect. “Trishul just approached me a film social event, and said he was working on a film that could be shot over a weekend,” O’Keefe recalls. “When I read the script, I absolutely latched onto it and knew I had to be a part of it.” The shoot ended up taking around 10 months, but it was worth it, O’Keefe said.
The 10-minute film follows the boy set on a wall on a sort of Humpty Dumpty retelling sure to excite local film enthusiasts.
The Sunny Side will screen with the Shorts 9: SRQ Shorts program on Thursday, April 16, at 6pm and again Saturday, April 18 at 2:30pm at the Regal Hollywood 20.
