In addition to the big-slash announcement today that Gasoline Films founder Michael Dunaway was the new programming director for the Sarasota Film Festival, a team of other programmers was also announced for the organization, including Maggie MacKay, Derek Horne and Caley Fagerstrom.
MacKay brings an impressive pedigree, including time working at the Sundance Film Festival and AFI Fest. Most recently, she served as senior programmer for the L.A. Film Festival and as director of nominations for the Indie Spirit Awards.
Horne, a Sarasota native, brings 20 years experience in film schools and the festival circuit. He has worked at such festivals as Sundance, Anaheim International Film Festival, Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival and Santa Fe Independent Film Festival. He spent the last 11 years mentoring students at Chapman University in California.
Fagerstrom has worked at SFF before, and also worked in programming for the Telluride Film Festival.
While the late deadline for submissions to the festival passed last week, submissions for SFF’s Young Filmmaker Showcase are open until February 27.
