Anyone from Sarasota who wants to get serious about filmmaking in a fast and furious fashion may want to jump on an opportunity coming to the area in June. Actor Vin Diesel’s One Race Global Film Foundation will host a two-week residential film program from June 30 to July 12 at the Ringling College of Art and Design campus. The program is open to anyone with a serious interest in filmmaking who is between the ages of 18 and 35. No prior training is required. While the program is sure to tap much of the talent on campus (Ringling has one of the top 25 film schools in the country right now), the Sarasota County Film and Entertainment Office also is seeking out people within the community who would be eligible for the program.
But it will be highly competitive to get in, and not just among locals. A total of seven students from the entire state of Florida will be selected. If you are one of the lucky ones, the foundation covers the cost of tuition, housing and food for the duration of the program. The chosen can move onto campus on June 28 or 29 and move out on July 13.
The program’s curriculum is developed in conjunction with New York University and the government of the Dominican Republic. So far the program has graduated 80 participants, who have produced 25 short films as part of the program.
