If there is one natural enemy for a tightrope walker, it’s the wind. But that won’t stop Nik Wallenda. The Discovery Channel announced on Thursday that its coming season will include a skywalk by Wallenda atop the Chicago skyline, when the Sarasota daredevil will show the Windy City who’s boss.
The news, reported widely by entertainment press in Los Angeles, was unveiled by Discovery at its upfront presentations for the 2014-2015 season. The live event will be broadcast as part of the cable channel’s fall schedule; no date has been reported. Last year’s “Skywire Live” broadcast of Wallenda traversing the Grand Canyon attracted 13 million viewers, according to Variety. The Chicago Tribune is reporting the event will take place in October, November or December.
The Discovery Channel has never broadcast a city skywalk by Wallenda before, but he has done them before in Sarasota, most recently in January 2013 to promote the coming Circus Sarasota season. Wallenda, of course, is a Sarasota native and part of the famous Flying Wallendas family.
