It’s always nice when filmmakers bring a parent to the red carpet for a movie screening, but it gets special attention when your mother is Ethel Kennedy. The Sarasota Film Festival on Wednesday confirmed that the mother to Last Days in Vietnam director Rory Kennedy, widow to U.S. Attorney General Robert Kennedy and celebrated activist/philanthropist would be in attendance.
Four Star Marine Corps Gen. John F. Kelly will also be in attendance, as will Capt. Paul Jacobs of the U.S.S. Kirk. The military leaders come in attachment to the film, which documents to Fall of Saigon (read our interview with Rory Kennedy about the film here). Bradenton singer Shantel Norman, a member of Sarasota’s Vietnam Brotherhood Color Guard, will present the colors and sing the National Anthem at the event. The red carpet for Opening Night unrolls at 6pm Friday at the Van Wezel, with the screening at 7pm and the party at 9pm.
