Welcome To Pine Hill, directed by Keith Miller, follows Shannon Harper, an African-American reformed drug dealer from the outskirts of New York. With his life just beginning to resemble a respectable one and with a steady and legal income from working as an insurance claims adjuster, he is diagnosed with a rare form of stomach cancer. The impact of the life-changing news on Shannon’s life is followed closely, his past coming back to haunt him at times.
The film is a vivid depiction of Shannon’s unconventional journey. An unconventional protagonist, Shannon continues to make up for his past and, in a film rife with themes—race relations, community, death, transformation—copes with the present.
The film screens at 4:30pm today and again at 2:30pm on Saturday.
