Through Women’s Eyes (TWE) in conjunction with the Gulf Coast Chapter of USNC UN Women and Women Make Movies hosted a filmmaker’s reception Saturday night at Art Center Sarasota. Directors, writers, actors, UN Women volunteers and sponsors mingled and shared their passion for global female empowerment and experiences as minorities in filmmaking. Many of the directors of the films featured in the TWE festival were in attendance, including mother/daughter team Lori Joyce and Candice Orlando, Sharyn Paul Bruise, Laura Nix, Hope Hartman and Eliaichi Kimaro.
Celebrating its 13th season, TWE has grown tremendously in the time since its inception thanks to a partnership with SFF and the dedication of UN Women volunteers. Festival Co-chair Mary Dailey was effusive about the films and women involved in the festival saying, “they are the next generation.”
Many of the films featured in the TWE festival will be showing during the week and are featured as part of SFF as well.
