A collaboration with the ballet? A Closing Night film two days before the end of the festival? Indeed, there will be some significant changes in the schedule for this year’s Sarasota Film Festival.
First off, the normally mid-week Cinema Tropicale event is being held on Friday, April 20. So long Night Under 1000 Stars.
Another significant change will be the combination of the Filmmaker Tribute Awards and the Closing Night Film. That is good news for those connected to the closing film, Under African Skies, because it puts the screening in the Sarasota Opera House.
In Conversation events will be held with actor Frank Langella, in town for Opening Night film Robot and Frank, and with director Todd Solondz, here to promote Dark Horse. Langella will also do a book signing on April 14 at Bookstore 1 Sarasota.
As in past years, there will be special programs spotlighting young filmmakers in youthFest and female filmmakers in Through Women’s Eyes. But this year will also include partnership programming with State College of Florida, The Jewish Federation of Sarasota Manatee and the Sarasota Ballet, among others. Keep checking back on this blog to learn more as the festival draws closer.
