Brace for SFF Town Hall

The first pre-festival event has already occurred, but perhaps the largest is yet to come. The Sarasota Film Festival has invited members of the broader public to a town hall-style event at the Marie Selby library in Sarasota. Scheduled for Feb. 8 from 5:30-7pm, the event will include a brief presentation on upcoming programs and changes to the 2012 festival. SFF Director Tom Hall said the event will include a dialogue with the audience, and he hopes everybody gains from the back-and-forth.

“The tagline is: Everything you wanted to know about the Sarasota Film Festival but were afraid to ask,” Hall says. “We want to be as transparent to the community as possible.”

Of course, many of the finer details, such as the films included in this year’s event and the stars invited to the SFF this year, may not be disclosed until a March event closer to the event itself. The Film Festival this year is scheduled from April 13-22.

New SFF 2012 Logo

I managed to snag Tom Hall & Veronica Pastore over for a quick photo with their new logo artwork tonight at Half Shell:

Here’s a close up of the concept art, designed by Vince Fraser:

And voila! The new Sarasota Film Festival 2012 logo: “See Things Differently”

Look forward to more updates and behind the scenes photos as this year’s film fest draws closer!

Gearing up for SFF 2012!!!

Hard to believe, but things are moving already on the happenings of the Sarasota Film Festival in 2012. On Wednesday, festival organizers will unveil the new logo for the event during a special event at Half Shell Oyster House. The new logo was designed by celebrated artist Vince Fraser. Make sure to check the SRQ Mag Backlot sometime after 5:30pm to get the first look at the new design.

SFF Director Tom Hall also informs us the marketing strategy will be discussed at the event, and the redesigned Sarasota Film Festival website will also be launched.

Organizers have not decided yet all of the films which will be included in the event this year, but they are on the prowl. “The last couple of years, the opening film has come out of Sundance,” he notes. That famous festival is scheduled this year from Jan. 19 to Jan. 29, and Hall is looking forward anxiously to that event.

And of course, loyal SRQ readers can trust the SRQ Mag Backlot once again to provide thorough, stunning coverage of the event as it happens, not to mention the best post-festival coverage of the event in the pages of SRQ Magazine. Bookmark those pages and brace yourself for this whirlwind festival’s return to the Suncoast.
